Zitface by Emily Howse Review

Hey guys! This is Lily again. :) A few weeks ago (yeah....I'm a lazy blogger) I finished this book. It's a quick read, I read in the matter of a couple of hours one afternoon, but it was still an excellent read. :)

WHAT THE BOOK WAS ABOUT: Olivia wakes up one morning with a pimple. She NEVER gets pimples. She's an actress/model. This cannot be happening to her! She's supposed to be the next Wacky Water Girl! While at the same time she's hitting things off with the new guy, J.W. She tries multiple things to cure her acne, but nothing seems to be helping. What will she do?
WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THE BOOK: It was very interesting and a good read. I always love reading books about girls about my age, so that's the main reason I liked this book.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: I can't remember.....sorry!
MY FAVORITE CHARACTER: Olivia and JW
MY LEAST FAVORITE CHARACTER: I don't know, in most books there is one person who I hate. But in this I kind of liked, or was okay, with everyone.
FAVORITE SCENE: Anything with JW. I love romance!
LEAST FAVORITE SCENE: Commercial filming, it got boring to me.
AGE I RECOMMEND: 11 and up.
RATING OUT OF FIVE: Four. It wasn't bad, it wasn't amazing.

Hey guys! This  is Lily here blogging again! I recently finished a book called Skin. I did have a different cover to my copy I borrowed from the library, but I looked it up. It's the same book. :)

WHAT THE BOOK WAS ABOUT: Donnie's sister Karen is dying to be thin. She has anorexia. But on top of that, his parents are fighting and his dad moved out "to be closer to his job." Everything is a mess in Donnie's eight grade life, his friends at school are ignoring him and all he wants to do is go back to that summer at the lake. Where everything was perfect. Except for his parents fighting. That's when it all started.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: There was a lot of swearing. And for some reason I didn't like Chris and Bean. Also, did the sister have anorexia or cancer? I got kind of confused on that part, especially the part where they were at the hospital.
MY FAVORITE SCENE: Whenever Amanda was in a scene, I liked those scenes.
MY LEAST FAVORITE SCENE: All scenes with Chris and Bean.
MY FAVORITE CHARACTER: Amanda and Karen, I guess Donnie too. But since I'm a teenage girl, I liked reading the conversations between Amanda and Karen more so then I did with Donnie and his friends.
MY LEAST FAVORITE CHARACTER: Bobby, Chris and Bean.
WHAT AGE I RECOMMEND IT FOR: Thirteen and up, maybe twelve. A character dies, there is a lot of swearing, disrespect, lying, hospitalizations, etc.
RATING OUT OF FIVE: Three. It was an okay book. I skimmed portions of it, mostly those with Chris and Bean.

Insurgent by Veronica Roth Review

Hey everyone! This is Lily blogging here!

Recently I finished Insurgent by Veronica Roth. Insurgent is the sequel to Divergent. The third book in the trilogy won't be out for another year or so. So let's get started on the review. :)

WHAT IT WAS ABOUT: I'm not going to give anything away since it is the sequel.
WHAT I LIKED: I liked how there was new characters and a new plot. I also liked how you got to see more of different factions, especially that of Candor.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: They can't leave that cliffhanger ending like that for a YEAR! Also, some parts weren't very clear and were way to confusing for me. And just like with Catching Fire and Mockingjay, it took me about 100 pages to really get into it. I will tell you one thing though, it does get better!
MY FAVORITE SCENE: The last three pages. WARNING! If you are on of those people who read the last five pages before you read the first five, DON'T! Just like with Pandemonium, it will ruin a lot of the book if not all of it.
MY LEAST FAVORITE SCENE: I'm not sure. I can't pick a specific one.
MY FAVORITE CHARACTER: Tris and Tobias obviously, and then probably Christina and Cara.
MY LEAST FAVORITE CHARACTER: Jeannie. I don't even know if that's how you spell her name, but I don't care! I hate her!
WHAT AGE I RECOMMEND IT FOR: Probably twelve and up maybe thirteen and up depending on the violence. Pretty much the same 'issues' as Divergent, some swearing and lots of violence/fighting. There is some kissing, but what YA books don't have kissing in them?
RATING OUT OF FIVE: Four and a half. It would be a five, but it took me way too long to get into it.

Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver Review

Hey everyone! This is Lily blogging! :) Today I have a review for you on the book Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver. This the second book in the Delirium trilogy. The third book will come out sometime in 2013 I think.

WHAT THE BOOK WAS ABOUT: I'm not really going to say since that might spoil the first book and the novella, so all I'm going to say is that it's the third book in the trilogy.
WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THE BOOK: I liked how there was two separate stories going on at the same time, and at the end, they kind of ended up in the same spot. The author also did a very good of job keeping me engaged in the story. I started it a Wednesday at noon, and finished it by the next Thursday around 2.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE ABOUT THE BOOK: I didn't like the way the story was told at the beginning, but then I liked it. Also I didn't like how the author didn't explain that much what organization Julian belonged to. I mean I understood the organization, it just would of been nice to know more about there goals for the country and stuff.
MY FAVORITE CHARACTER: Lena. And Raven. And Blue. And Julian. They were all such amazing characters!
MY LEAST FAVORITE CHARACTER: The people in the sewer, I just didn't get them at all. I mean towards the end I did, but still they were weird. And the people in the Wilds, the boy, oh what was his name? I don't remember, I read the book a month ago and am just getting around to doing this post now. I don't remember the boys name, but the one main boy who isn't Julian or Alex.
MY FAVORITE SCENE: When Julian and Lena come clean about each other and who Lena really is, either that or when Raven tells the story of how Blue died. Also the ending, like the VERY LAST SENTENCE of the book! If you are one of those people that read the last page or two to see if the ending is good, DO NOT READ THE ENDING OF THIS ONE!! It will spoil THE ENTIRE BOOK.
MY LEAST FAVORITE SCENE: When (a certain person) died. I'm not going to give it away though. As a joke I was joking my family that Lauren Oliver (the author of this book) and Suzanne Collins (The Hunger Games author) are like long lost cousins or something. They both write a lot about people dying, I mean obviously Suzanne Collins does more, but still. I thought it was funny.
WHAT AGE I RECOMMEND THE BOOK FOR: Probably 12 and up. MAYBE thirteen and up. There is quite a bit of fighting and some characters die, but it's not bloody or anything, no where near like The Hunger Games. Lena kisses a boy a few times and for survival (warmth) they sleep in the same bed together. There is one brief scene where Lena takes one sip of alcohol, but no more then that I can remember. Overall I think a 12 (maybe 13) year old could definitely handle it.
RATING: Five out of five stars!

That's all for now!

Sunrise By: Karen Kingsbury Review

Poppy here! I recently read a book called: Sunrise by: Karen Kingsbury. And I will tell you about it.

WHAT THE BOOK WAS ABOUT:   Dayne and Katy are planning their wedding and revelling in the relative obscurity living in Bloomington offers, even as they seek to hide the plans for their big day from the paparazzi. The realisation Dayne will still be required to film romantic scenes in his movies with other actresses places pressure on their relationship until Dayne comes up with a solution which has the power to either strengthen their relationship or destroy it.
WHAT I LIKED: I just love Karen Kingsbury as a writer! She just write so welly. (If thats a word...) So basically I loved it.
FAVORITE CHARACTER: Katy Hart.
LEAST FAVORITE CHARACTER: Hmmm......... I don't know. Maybe, one of Cody's friends that drink...... I don't really know I guess.
RATING: 5!
Yeah. So I'm reading the book and I'm like. 'C'mon! I just the whole series that came after this series?!'

War Horse By: Michael Morpurgo

Ivy has review for you! War Horse by Michael Morpurgo. For those of you have seen the movie but havent red the book or vis versa, the book isn't the same as the movie. It has many simular parts but isn't word for word.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT: It is 1914, the start of World War I. Joey, a farm horse is sold to the army and put on the Western War Front. As Joey is sent off he misses his Albert, the farmers son, he was forced to leave behind. The beautiful red-bay horse is trained to charge the enemy, drag heavy artillery, and carry woulded soliders off the battle feild. Amongst the gun sounds, and while pulling carts through cold mud, Joey wonders if the war will ever end and will he every see his Albert again.
WHAT I LIKED: I liked that most of the people in the book were nice to the horses.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: Even though I know it is based on a true story, I hate that alll those horses and men had to die.
FAVORITE CHARACTER: All the horses. They did so much, from pulling carts, carrying the men, and so much more, they stayed strong.
LEAST FAVORITE CHARACTER: I don't know. Because it was a war and all. There wasn't really a side or person a disliked.
FAVORITE SCENE: (SPOILER ALERT) That Joey and Albert were reunited.
LEAST FAVORITE SCENE: There was one horse that was friends with Joey, the scene where he died.
AGE I WOULD RECCOMEND: I think like 13. Just because of the fighting and the horse dying.
RATING: 5 out of 5 stars.

I loved this book! I saw the movie as well and was so excited to read the book! I would strongly urge you to read the book.

Finding Her Way Home By: Linda Goodnight

Hi, it's Ivy. New review: Finding Her Way Home, A novel by Linda Goodnight.

She has come her to hide from her past not make friends. Single dad, Trace Bowman won't let Cheyenne hide from him. He knows she has a special way with his daughter Zoey. Cheyenne is a little overwelmed in Redemtion, and Trace must show her that she needs to stay.
WHAT I LIKED: I liked that Cheyene was a cop and she helped one person being abused.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: During the whole book one person was being abused and I don't really know if the abused person and her husband needed to be in the book. I guess it caused drama, but it didn't really fit in for where the book took place.
FAVORITE CHARACTER: My favorite was probably Zoey. SPOILER ALERT, Zoey is blind.
LEAST FAVORITE CHARACTER: The abusive husband.
FAVORITE SCENE: I liked the scene when Cheyenne was teaching Zoey how to play the piano.
LEAST FAVORITE SCENE: There was this big scene where the abusive guy comes and hurts his wife, and Cheyenne.

The Lawman's Christmas Wish By: Linda Goodnight

Hi Everyone! I, Ivy have a review for you, Linda Goodnight's novel The Lawman's Christmas Wish.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT:  Widow, Amy James, has lots of men looking after her in the small town of Treasure Creek, Alaska. When she's in grocery stores she can hardley walk without a marrige proposal. The proposals aren't for love, but the treasure her great-great-grandfather left her. But the town sherrif, Reed Truscott is the only one who promised her late husband that he would look after Amy and her two young boys. Reed, makes her feel safe and he is very handsome. But his honorable marriage proposal is about obligation—not love. Unless he can convince her that his Christmas wish is to join her family forever.
WHAT I LIKED: I liked that even though the awarkward proposal from Reed, that Amy and him are still friends.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: I didn't like two men who were after the treasure and threaten Amy's kids.
FAVORITE CHARATER: Amy, she showed that even without a man she can support herself and her two boys, that she didn't need to depend on a man. (Which only happened in the first half of the book)
LEAST FAVORITE CHARACTER: The robber guys.
FAVORITE SCENE: I liked when they were decorating the park for a Christmas tree celebration.
LEAST FAVORITE SCENE: SPOILER ALERT: The two guys that kidnapped her sons and her.
AGE I WOULD RECCOMEND: Like 11 or 12.
RATING: 5 out of 5 stars!

Hana by Lauren Oliver Review

Hi guys! This is Lily posting. :) Today I have a review for you on the novella to Delirium by Lauren Oliver. It's called Hana. This book is pretty much Delirium but from Hana's POV, sort of like the unpublished Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer is like Twilight but from Edward's POV. To see my review of Delirium by Lauren Oliver, click here. I could find this book avabile on Amazon for my Kindle, so I just got that. I'm not sure if it's available in a paperback or hardcover copy.

WHAT THE BOOK WAS ABOUT: It's pretty much Delirium but from Hana's POV. It starts off in the middle of Delirium though, not at the beginning.
WHAT I LIKED ABOUT IT: I liked how it was told from Hana's POV and you got to see and learn more about Hana.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: I didn't like how some of the events in that (also happened in Delirium) we're not included or were very minimal. Also it was very short, the estimated pages is only 63. I would of loved to read more from Hana's POV.
MY FAVORITE CHARACTER: In this one, Hana.
MY LEAST FAVORITE CHARACTER: Whatever her matches name is, I can't remember his name.
MY FAVORITE SCENE: When Hana meets Alex and Lena in the stock room at the Stop N Save.
MY LEAST FAVORITE SCENE: The golfing scene, I thought that scene was boring.
WHAT AGE I WOULD RECOMMEND IT FOR: Twelve and up, maybe thirteen and up. There is lots of kissing and hand holding (one brief sentence that talks about more then that, but nothing actually happens), there might be some alcohol drinking (I can't remember for sure) and characters sneak out past curfew plenty of times.
RATING OUT OF FIVE: Five! I loved this book just as much as I loved Delirium.

Thanks for reading and I HIGHLY recommend the entire trilogy, the second book in the series I will review tomorrow. :)

Delirium by Lauren Oliver Review

Hi everyone! Lily blogging here! =) Today I have a review for you on the book Delirium by Lauren Oliver.

WHAT THE BOOK WAS ABOUT: In this futuristic dystopian novel, everybody thinks that love is a disease. Scientists have found a cure to amor delira nervosa, where they cut into part of your brain and then when you wake up from the surgery you're cured. You cannot feeling loving (or hating) emotions anymore. Everybody on their 16th or 18th birthday (I can't remember which one!) gets the cure, and just before then they get evaluated and matched with partners that they are to marry and start a family with once they cured. Being with uncured boys (or girls) is a deadly crime. Uncured's have a strict curfew. In this world, people cannot listen to music unless it's approved by the government, read books unapproved by the government (ie, Romeo and Juliet, all types of poetry, etc.) Lena believes in all this. Until she meets Alex. When she realizes that her whole entire life is a lie, everything she's been told, everything she knows is a lie.
WHAT I LIKED: I liked the characters, Lena, Hana, Alex and everybody. It was a very good story and I thought the plot was very interesting. I loved it, adding it to my list of top favorites.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: The author left chapters at cliffhangers. It was really annoying because she would end one chapter with a cliffhanger, and then start the next chapter with some memory from the fourth grade or something. So that was annoying. The ending I didn't like either. It was horrible! I seriously cried for like ten minutes (we were driving in the car) and my family was like, "why are you crying?" I was sobbing "it can't end like this! It's horrible, so sad!" I don't normally cry in books, this marks one of two books I've ever cried in. I went into the book thinking, how is she going to make me convinced that love is a disease? When I came out I was half and half, I understood half why it would be and half why it wouldn't be. If she had convinced me a little more I would of loved it even more. Although it is in my top ten favorite books now. :)
MY FAVORITE CHARACTER: Oooh! Tough one! Probably Lena, but Hana and Grace aren't far behind, and neither is Grace!
MY LEAST FAVORITE CHARACTER: Aunt Carol, I'm sorry but I just didn't like her all that much.
MY FAVORITE SCENE: I don't know. I loved all of the book so much!
MY LEAST FAVORITE SCENE: The ending scene! I hated that. I'm not going to spoil that much, but if you are like half way through the book or something, I recommend skipping this little part. Why did (Insert character name here) have to die?!?!?! I just thought that was a stupid choice by the author although she must have a reason for it.
WHAT AGE I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK FOR: Twelve and up, maybe thirteen and up because there is some swearing in it. Lots of kissing between two characters and one character takes a guys shirts off. There is illegal music and books read, and some characters sneak out past curfew to parties (where this alcohol but not a lot is said about that.)A girl get's bitten by a dog and her leg is bleeding, but certainly not nearly as violent as The Hunger Games.
WHAT I RATE THE BOOK: Five out of five stars!

I have already read the novella and sequel and will get those reviews up soon. Thanks for reading!

I Survived The Sinking of the Titanic, 1912 By: Lauren Tarshis Review

Hey! One more book that I finished in an hour! So I have to tell you about it!

WHAT THE BOOK IS ABOUT: George must be the luckiest ten year old boy around. Why? Because he gets to ride the unsinkable Titanic around. His aunt is taking him and his little sister, Phoebe, with her. Then the unthinkable happens. The Titanic hits and iceberg and water rushes in. George and his family is stranded in the middle of the ocean, on a sinking ship. He's always gotten out trouble before... but how will he survive this?
WHAT I LIKED: I liked that the author put some real facts about the ship and the things that actually happened in the book.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: How so many people died. I know that the author didn't add that in and that it's actually true. I still think its sad.
RATING: I would give it a 4. I liked it.

LEAST FAVORITE CHARACTER: Andi. Sorry! I just can't believe her!! SPOILER ALERT! She can't date Cody! NOOOOO!!
RATING: 6! This was probably the best book in the series in my opinion.

Hey! Poppy here! I recently read a book called: Half - Stitched Amish Quilting Club By: Wanda E. Brunstetter and I will tell you about it.

There’s Star, a young woman yearning for stability; Pam and Stuart Johnston, a struggling couple at odds in their marriage; Paul Ramirez, a young widower hoping to find solace in finishing a quilt; Jan Sweet, a rough and tough biker doing some creative community service; and Ruby Lee Williams, a preacher’s wife looking for relaxation when parish problems mount. WHAT I LIKED: I liked everything. I really like Wanda E. Brunstetters books. I think I've read all of them.
WHAT I DIDNT LIKE: Carmen, SPOILER ALERT! who blames Paul for his wife's death.
FAVORITE CHARACTER: I think that Pam and Stuart are my favorite characters.
LEAST FAVORITE CHARACTER: I didn't really like Star (Beatrice's) mom. She seemed like she didn't really care about Star at all.
RATING: I think i would give it a 4. I liked this book, but it wasn't like any of her other ones.

Poppy

Diary of a Wimpy Kid by: Jeff Kinney Review

Hey! Poppy here! I recently read a book called: Diary of a Wimpy Kid by: Jeff Kinney. You've heard of it right?? Anyways, I will tell you all about it.

WHAT THE BOOK WAS ABOUT: Being a kid can really stink. And no one knows this better than Greg Heffley. His mom bought him this "diary" so that he can write his feelings down for his first year of junior high. However, Greg doesn't like this idea at all. As he says, "Just don't expect me to be all "Dear diary this," and "Dear diary that."
WHAT I LIKED: I liked that it's written in like an actual notebook form. Like it has those line things like notebooks have. And it also sounds like completely true of what Greg say happens to him and everything.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:  Sometimes there was some things that wasn't very nice in it.
FAVORITE CHARACTER:  I love his best friend, Rowley!!! He seems so cool and if he was actually real, I would have out with him. I also like his little brother.
LEAST FAVORITE CHARACTER: His older brother. He seemed so mean.
RATING: I'd probably give this a 3. Because it obviously a boyish book and that sort of thing.

Dad By Choice By: Marie Ferrarella Review

Ivy here! I have a new review! Dad By Choice By: Marie Ferrarella

WHAT IS IT ABOUT: Abby Maitland, was born into a "rich" family. She is a maternity docter, at her family hospital. She was used to living a quiet life, but when a misterous baby shows up on the door step of Maitlend Maternity Hospitail, life has turned up-side-down.  Kyle McDermott, knew that raising his sister wouldn't be easy, but he didn't expect to have to help raise her child. Kyle only thinks one way, his way, so you would think that Marcie, Kyle's sister should marry her baby's father right. No, Marcie won't. Abby now has to try to stop rummors about the baby while Kyle is pressing her to talk her young patient into an unwanted marriage. But after a while, Kyle and Abby start to have feelings for each other.
WHAT I LIKED: I liked that Abby and Kyle, learn to help each other. And I liked how Marcie told her brother that she could make her own choices.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: It's part of a series so I'm left hanging. And also there were three parts that I had to skip. I did NOT read them but I am sure that they did not need to be in that book. There was also a little bit of swearing.
FAVORITE SCENE: I liked when Abby had to protect the baby from a newspaper guy.
LEAST FAVORITE SCENE: There was this one person in the book and she was swearing a bit.
FAVORITE CHARACTER: Marcie and the unknown baby.
LEAST FAVORITE CHARACTER: This one character named Janelle. She was so evil. SPOILER ALERT, she was the one involved with the mystery baby.
STARS RATING: Since the bad parts and swearing I would say like 3 1/2 stars out of 5.
AGE I WOULD RECCOMEND: I would say like 13-14. No younger, just becouse it talks about doctor stuff, like all of the technical stuff so it might be harder to understand. And the bad parts that you have to skip.

Ivy

Melody's Knight By: Bonnie Blythe Review

Hi, everyone! Ivy here:) I have red a book by: Bonnie Blythe called Melody's Knight.

WHAT WAS IT ABOUT: Melody Laurent, a young women from Great Britain with a weakness of old American cowboy movies, (and a secret fencing obsession) is completely in awe of her dark haired neighbor,Avery Knight.  Avery a Southern Oregon boy, (with cowboy boots and hat) just got out of a complicated relationship. With a disobedient puppy named Barney on his hands, and a local firefighter, you think he has hands full. But when Melody enters his life, he spends more time rescuing here then putting out fires.
WHAT I LIKED: I liked that it was romance but they weren't all over each other.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: I can't remember their names but Avery's ex-girlfriend and Melody's ex-boyfriend.
FAVORITE CHARACTER: Melody was probably my favorite but I also loved Barney the dog!
LEAST FAVORITE CHARACTER: There was this one guy in the book, (not going to say who. I don't want to spoil it) But he was so creepy.
FAVORITE SCENE: I liked when Avery, and Melody were practicing what you would do in case of a fire and (SPOILER ALERT) he caught her from the window.

Chop. Chop by L.N Cronk Review

Hi guys! This is Lily blogging!

Today I have a review for you on the book Chop, Chop by L.N Cronk.

WHAT THE BOOK WAS ABOUT: Ever since Laci was little she's been growing her hair for Locks Of Love and David watches her repeat the cycle. Once Greg moves to town he must deal with his best (long haired) friend doing it too. But David has bigger problems to worry about. Sam(anntha) is David's crush and he's keeping it a secret from her. This book follows Greg, Laci, David and a few other characters from when they were little up until high school prom.
WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THE BOOK: A very good storyline and excellent characters.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: Some parts weren't described very well and it felt like they skipped several years in some spots, but for the most part I liked it. I do like that there are several more books in the series too. I
MY FAVORITE CHARACTER: Even though David was the protagonist, I liked Laci the best. And even though Mercedes has a very minor role, I loved her too.
MY LEAST FAVORITE CHARACTER: Kevin. Or whatever his name was. SPOILER ALRET! The shooter at the high school.
MY FAVORITE SCENE: When David and Laci took Greg out on a hunt for a fake animal.
MY LEAST FAVORITE SCENE: When a certain character was killed, and when Laci left Mercedes.
WHAT AGE I RECCOMEND THIS BOOK FOR: Eleven and up. I can't recall anything bad in the book, except for a high school shooting. Also some of the characters go on a mission trip and witness some kids in poverty.
WHAT I RATE THE BOOK OUT OF FIVE: Five out of five stars.

Well that's all for now!

Texas Whirlwind By: Bonnie Blythe Review

Ivy here! I have red a book By: Bonnie Blythe called  Texas Whirlwind.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT: Emma Hayes wants to set up a real life for her and her adopted Haitian twin daughters, in Texas. She compares her life to a tornado in Texas, a total mess. But when she runs into her old high school sweet heart that she left behind when she was a teen, she knows her life is a messed up. While taking on a custody battle against a couple who wants to take her daughters, she needs the help of Travis Taylor, again. Will she fall in love with the handsome Texan? Will she lose her daughters?
WHAT I LIKED: I liked that I was really pulled into the book. I couldn't put it down. I loved the way that Travis helped Emma through everything.
WHAT I DIDND'T LIKE: There were a few people that bothered me.
FAVORITE SCENE: That Emma and Travis sort of depended on each other.
LEAST FAVORITE SCENE: The court room when they were battling for custody, it was kind of sad.
FAVORITE CHARACTER: Probably Emma or the twins. The twins sounded so cute. Emma was so awesome.
LEAST FAVORITE CHARACTER: The people that bothered me.
AGE RECCOMD: I would say like 11-13. There isn't anything bad, but just for understanding the book, it can be confussing.
STARS: 5 stars all the way!!!! I loved this book!

Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins Review

Hi guys! Lily here again! Recently I finished the second book of the The Hunger Games Trilogy, Catching Fire. I read the first book back in October, and started Catching Fire the first week of November or so, but I had to put it down for a few months while I was really busy. I had a lot of other books to read, I had book club books and books I wanted to read before they were due back at the library and everything. So I finally finished Catching Fire and am posting a review on it.

WHAT THE BOOK WAS ABOUT: I'm not really going to say since this is the second book and I don't want to spoil anything.
WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THE BOOK: I'm going to be honest and say that the first 100 pages or so were boring to me. They didn't make much sense. And then one day I got to reading it a bit more and then the plot changer kicked in. It was awesome. I loved reading it.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE ABOUT THE BOOK: It took me literally months to get into it, about 100 pages or so. But then again I skip over a lot of detail and probably missed something.
MY FAVORITE SCENE:  The plot changing scene. I'm not going to spoil anything, but lets just say it's a shock.
MY LEAST FAVORITE SCENE: One of the beginning scenes, I dunno which one, but the beginning of the book wasn't very exciting.
MY FAVORITE CHARACTER: (SPOILER ALERT)Katniss and Peeta.
MY LEAST FAVORITE CHARACTER: Finnick. Even if he was a good guy I still hate that character.
WHAT AGE I RECOMMEND THE BOOK FOR: 11 and up, maybe 12 depending on violence issues. Just like in the first one there are deaths and blood and everything but it's not like a horror movie or anything. There are some deaths but no overly disgusting details or anything.
RATING OUT OF FIVE: Once the plot kicked in 5, before that 3.

The Dirt by Lori Culdwell

Hi guys! Lily here! I recently read a book called The Dirt by Lori Culdwell.

WHAT THE BOOK WAS ABOUT:  Lucy's dad is about to get remarried, and the only reason she's excited is because once the wedding is over, she gets to move out of the dessert! The stupid place she's always hated. But when a mysterious girl crashes the wedding delivering some bad news, will Lucy still be able to go to her boarding school? Better off, will she want to go to boarding school still?
WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THE BOOK: I liked how this family was famous and celebrities, but they seemed normal still. Like the Kardashians kind of, but the oldest girl in the family is still in high school.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE ABOUT THE BOOK: The PG's that's just stupid that the NPG's put up with the PG's. I liked reading about it, but it's not very realistic. Also, you would think that Lucy's dad's wedding planner or whatever would of checked all the legal documents first and everything!
MY FAVORITE SCENE IN THE BOOK: I'm not exactly sure. Maybe when Sloane was giving Megan and Lucy makeovers and teaching them about fashion and beauty?
MY FAVORITE CHARACTER: Megan and Lucy are tied, I know it sounds weird to be on Megan's side, but I liked her as a character.
MY LEAST FAVORITE CHARACTER: Well towards the end Sloane, but other then that probably Lisa.
WHAT I RATE THE BOOK: Four and a half stars out of five.
WHAT AGE I RECOMMEND THE BOOK FOR: Probably 13 and up, maybe 12. SPOILER ALERT: One character (not the main character)is accused of doing and drugs and is sent to jail but then released because they learn it's not her, it's a different character. But it's not like that's the premise of the story, just a small (maybe 2 chapter?) part.

Fools Rush In By: Janice Thompson Review

I recently read a book called: Fools Rush In By: Janice Thompson. So I will tell you about it.

WHAT THE BOOK IS ABOUT: Bella Rossi's life is just starting to get interesting. When her Italian-turned-Texan parents hand over the family wedding-planning business, Bella quickly books a Boot-Scootin' wedding that would make any Texan proud. There's only one catch--she doesn't know a thing about country music. Where will she find a deejay on such short notice who knows his Alan Jackson from his George Strait? And will Bella ever get to plan her own wedding?
WHAT I LIKED: I liked how they talked ALOT about country music. Maybe that because I just LOVE country music??? :)
WHAT I DIDNT LIKE: I  didn't like how she kept talking in Italian and then she didn't tell you what she had just said.
RATING OUT OF FIVE STARS: 6!!! Again COUNTRY MUSIC!!

Sandcastles Of Love Review By Sydell I. Voeller

Hi guys! Lily blogging here! I recently read a book called Sandcastles Of Love by Sydell I. Voeller. This is a book I read on my Kindle Fire, it is an ebook, not a print book.

WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THE BOOK: I liked the plot and the characters. It was cool and interesting. Girls swapping houses for the summer- interesting.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: I didn't like how the author didn't really talk about Monty much. I also felt like the beach summer romance theme has been used a million times. Not very clever. I also don't like the cover. A shirtless guy and a girl. Who knows who that is in the book. It could be Trish and Jeff, or Jeff and Logan, or Logan and Grant. Plus, I HATE covers that show peoples faces. That doesn't leave anything to imagine. I know the author probably didn't make her cover, but still.
MY FAVORITE CHARACTER: Logan. But if not Logan then probably Midnight, even though Midnight's a cat. But my second favorite human character would have to be Grant.
MY LEAST FAVORITE CHARACTER: Stacey. I never liked that girl much.....
MY FAVORITE SCENE: When Logan told Grant her true feelings for him. That was SO romantic!
MY LEAST FAVORITE SCENE: When Midnight ran away. I have a bunch of cats and if one of them got away I would be sobbing for DAYS, so I felt really bad for Trish and Logan.
WHAT AGE I WOULD RECCOMEND THE BOOK FOR: 11, maybe 12. There wasn't anything bad in the book I can recall except for I think Logan might swear a few short, quick times.
RATING OUT OF FIVE: Four stars. It was a pretty good read, it was pretty short though.

Divergent By Veronica Roth Review

Hi guys! This is Lily here! Despite having misprints in the book and having to exchange it for another one, I finished this book! I started it on Friday afternoon and finished the entire book (along with bonus materials and a preview of the next book) a few hours ago, Monday afternoon. And it's a thick book, so that can only tell you how much I loved the book- Divergent by Veronica Roth.

WHAT THE BOOK WAS ABOUT: Beatrice (Tris later on) lives in a future world, much like The Hunger Games sort of world. A dystopia. When you turn sixteen in this world, you go through a test to find out which faction you should join. The factions are groups of people who live in the same area of the future of Chicago. There is no more religion or anything like that, just factions. The factions are based what you think tore the old society apart. Example, one faction called the Abnegation, think that being selfish tore the old society apart. Anyways, so when Beatrice turns sixteen, she does the test and gets very unusual results. She then picks her faction and goes through training to be a member of that faction. But not everybody gets to be members. Some people will live factionless.... which is sort of like today's version of a hobo.
WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THE BOOK: I liked almost everything. Veronica Roth, the author, described everything very nicely. Even though going through the training in that world, I would like to do it one day. And then be able to return back here. You know that you've read a good book when you want to meet the characters, and when you want to visit their world. Hopefully I will be cured with that in the future, because it's going to be a movie next year or the year after!
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE ABOUT THE BOOK: Just like in The Hunger Games, there were A LOT of side characters. I don't mind that because it makes it seem more real, but I don't like it because it's hard to keep all the characters straight. The authors also used the word/phrase/term "I bite my lip" A LOT! Beatrice would talk and then bite her lip, walk into a room and bite her lip,  I swear I don't know how the girls lip wasn't bleeding all the time! Also I got TWO misprinted copies, but oh well. It's not the authors fault, just the publishing comapnies.
MY FAVORITE CHARACTER: Oh gosh this is a hard one. Beatrice (Tris) because she's the main character. But I really like Christina, Tori and Four too.
MY LEAST FAVORITE CHARACTER: Eric. He's mean!
MY FAVORITE SCENE: Probably a scene that if I told you it, it would be a spoiler so I'm not going to say. But it's the last twenty five percent of the book! ;)
MY LEAST FAVORITE SCENE: The last few scenes of the book actually. I feel like they didn't explain why exactly everything was happening. I'm not going to ruin it, but I didn't really get why they were fighting. Maybe it's just me, but I didn't really understand it much.
WHAT AGE I RECOMMEND IT FOR: 12 or 13 and up. The book has A LOT of fighting and cruelness in it, even more then The Hunger Games. The people swear sometimes, and a few other things.
RATING OUT OF FIVE: Six! Excellent book, I cannot wait for the sequel to come out in May! I think I might die waiting......

Diary Of Ma Yan Book Review

Hi guys! This is Lily again! I recently read a book called Diary Of Ma Yan by Ma Yan. The book is actually a diary of a Chinese schoolgirl translated into English, so it's really cool.

WHAT THE BOOK WAS ABOUT: It was Ma Yan's diary so it was pretty much just about her life. Several times she was concerned she wouldn't be able to ever go to school again, several times she's starving of hunger, and her mother is sick. The book is really cool and it's really neat how it teaches you a lot about China.
WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THE BOOK: I liked that it was real and how it taught me about China, mostly Chinese currency. The publishers also stopped the diary every once in a while to explain somethings about China and Ma Yan's life and culture.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE ABOUT THE BOOK: Some things were kind of confusing and the book got very boring sometimes, since it was just a diary. Some days of your life are boring and some are interesting.
MY FAVORITE PERSON IN THE BOOK: Ma Yan of course.
MY LEAST FAVORITE PERSON IN THE BOOK: I don't know. I didn't not like any of them. Maybe one of her teachers that was mean? I don't really know.
MY FAVORITE SCENE IN THE BOOK: I'm not really sure. I liked a lot of scenes.
MY LEAST FAVORITE SCENE: When she was so hungry and didn't have any fen or yuan (money in China) to buy any food. That was so sad.
WHAT AGE I WOULD RECCOMEND THE BOOK FOR: Probably nine and up, maybe ten. There isn't anything bad in the book that I can recall, except one of her teachers is kind of mean and hits the students. Also it might be hard for some kids reading it to know how hungry she was, she was literally starving.
RATING OUT OF FIVE: Four stars. It wasn't awesome, but it wasn't bad either.

Well that's all for now. Sorry the cover picture is so blurry! :)

Exodus By Julie Bertagna Book Review

Hi guys! This is Lily posting! :) I recently read a book called Exodus by Julie Bertagna.

WHAT THE BOOK WAS ABOUT: Mara, the protagonist in the book, is living in the year 2099. All of Earth's ice caps have melted or on the verge of melting. The last island left is Mara's and the sea is about to take that too. She is forced to take some of the residents of her island to safety- a new city the sky- a place called New Mungo.
WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THE BOOK: I liked the beginning of the book how Mara was describing that computers were ancient and how different the world could be in less then 100 years.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE ABOUT THE BOOK: To be honest, I didn't like most of it. I'll just sum up some of the things that I didn't like. The names were horrible and terribly confusing. For any of you that have read The Hunger Games, I know you're thinking how could the names be any worse, but listen to these: Candleriggs, Gorbals, Wing, Caledon, Treenester, Tain, Tony Rex,Pollock Halfgood? It was very confusing. I also didn't like how it started off as dystopian fiction, but then sort of morphed into a fantasy novel. It was very weird. Also the writing just plain out wasn't very good.
MY FAVORITE CHARACTER:  Mara probably, maybe Tain? Possibly even Wing.
MY LEAST FAVORITE CHARACTER: Candleriggs! I just hate that name! But otherwise probably Tony Rex.
MY FAVORITE SCENE: The ones in the first few pages.
MY LEAST FAVORITE SCENE: Most of the rest of the book, but mostly the last one.
RATING OUT OF FIVE STARS: Two. It just flat out wasn't a very good book, at least to my opinion.
AGE I RECOMMEND IT FOR: Ten and up probably. Maybe even nine. There's nothing bad in the book I can remember except for a one or two sentence murder towards the end of the book. But it is very confusing and really makes you think hard about the future of our planet.

Well that's all for now, but you can expect a review on the book Divergent by Veronica Roth coming up soon! I just picked it up today and am already loving it!

Yours Truly, Lucy B. Parker, Sealed With A Kiss Review

Poppy here! I just read another book and I will tell you about it.

WHAT THE BOOK IS ABOUT: Lucy B. Parker's frister (friend\sister) is going on set to shoot a movie. And Lucy goes with her. Lucy has some fun times and not so fun times like when Laurel starts acting all superstar-ish and she gets ignored. But what will she do when she finds out that a big superstar has a crush on her?
WHAT I LIKED: Again I liked how it basically sounded like realistic. Just the way that the author wrote the book I guess.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: I liked everything. I have no complaints.
FAVORITE CHARACTER: I like Lucy. She just seems to talk and think the same way that girls do today.
LEAST FAVORITE CHARACTER: I don't like the "pap" (papparazi) at all. Their always snapping embarrassing pictures of Lucy when she's with Laurel.
FAVORITE SCENE: I thought it was funny how she freaked out because she had blue hair.
AGE I RECOMMEND: I would say 11 or 12. Because they do talk about how she has a crush.
RATING OUT OF FIVE STARS: 5!!

Girl vs. Superstar, Your Truly, Lucy B. Parker By: Robin Palmer Review

Hey everyone! Poppy here! And I'm going to tell you about the book I just read.

WHAT THE BOOK WAS ABOUT: When Lucy B. Parker gets friend dumped right before school starts, she figures life can't get much worse. But then her mom announces that she's dating Laurel Moses' dad. THE Laurel Moses - The TV movie-music star whose face is one the cover of every magazine. Suddenly Lucy's life is turned sideways! Up until now, her main goal has been to just get through the day without totally embarrassing herself. And now she's going to be the less-pretty, less-talented stepsister of the most famous girl in the world.
WHAT I LIKED: Mostly everything.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: I didn't really like that it wasn't that realistic.
AGE I RECOMMEND: 11 or 12 I guess.
RATING OUT OF FIVE STARS: 3 and a half.

You Shouldn't Have To Say Goodbye By: Patricia Hermes Review

Hey Everyone!! Poppy here! I will tell about the book I just read.

WHAT THE BOOK IS ABOUT: When Sarah and her best friend get bored, they always ask Sarah's mom what they should do. One day when Sarah hugs her mom and thanks her for giving them an idea, her mom winces. This is the first sign. As Sarah's mom battle's cancer, Sarah learns about the important things in her life. But when it's to late, what will Sarah do?
WHAT I LIKED: I liked that it was super realistic but very sad.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: I didn't like I almost cried. Sometimes, people that don't have bad things in their life take this life for granted. What we don't realize is that people die every day.
AGE I RECOMMEND: 11 is probably a good age.
RATING OUT OF FIVE STARS: 5 stars. I liked this book which is why I gave it five stars.

A Bride For Pastor Dan By: Katie Crabapple Review

Poppy here! I recently read this book and I will tell you about it!

WHAT THIS BOOK WAS ABOUT: Dan has been looking for a wife since he got out of pastor school. Anna is a woman who thinks that she is a girl who has nothing to offer to any man especially Pastor Dan. But what happens when he proclaims his love for her, will she accept him or run away?
WHAT I LIKED: I liked that it was a super short read. I think it was 15,000 words.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: I didn't like that the story just left you hanging. That annoys me when authors do that.
AGE I RECOMMEND: It depends on what your mom or dad says. It doesn't have anything inappropriate and it doesn't have any swear words.
RATING: Well, since it kind of made me mad that it left me hanging then I say it is a 3 stars.
